Hello,
- Al,Kaz,Vince, Dan,31st and everyone around =)

I do use 5w-30 Mobil 1 here in the East Bay Area SF CA on my 330CI - how is that sound is it OK , or 10w-30 is better - the average temp here is : W=40F; S=90F !

ps:in the manual it said 5w-30 or 5w40 -- but Mobil does not make 5w-40....; also what is your opinion for 15w50 Mobil 1 or that will be too thick ?

Personally, I'd lean to the 50w after the car has about 100,000 on it. In the meantime, I've been living with the Mobil 1 5-30W.

That's not going to do any harm to the engine, but I would try to stay with the same viscosity.

I asked the BMW SErvice Manager

and he said even though the Filler Cap says "Castrol" he would use the BMW oil, I bought a quart (5-30 High Performance Synthetic) over the BMW Parts Counter and with a discount, got it for $3.42 which was a lot cheaper than Walmart charges for Castrol Synthetic.

I'd stick to the same brand of oil. They are not made the same. It's ok to switch from one to another but if you are running with Castrol, top it off with the same.
