My 2005 Z4 has started making a loud popping noise when turning the steering wheel the first few inches left or right. Steering feels normal. I had my wife work the steering back and forth while I was under the car. You can feel the "pop" when your hand is on a suspension component. It does not make the noise with the wheels unweighted (in the air). I've checked the CV Joints and everything else I could, but I can't find anything obvious. The noise might actually be coming from the steering rack (rack and pinion??) itself.

The car only has 39,000 miles on it!

Any known problems???? :dunno:

Any suggestions???

Thanks for your help................

May I join in? My 2003 Z4 just started doing the exact "knuckle sound popping" also....and I just had the front control arm bushings done about 9 months ago and I had the dealer look at my rears a month ago and they are fine. Yes it sounds like its in the steering column itself, noise traveling up....from wherever.
