Labor Day weekend was going well until my 2011 535 pwr trunk failed in the up position. Yes I was out at the time and boy does the MPG suffer with that parachute. Regardless, after testing everything, I gave up and took to dealer yesterday when they opened.

Result: the screw mechanism was fuzed and locked therefore the trunk was going no where until physically removed. Parts on order. Makes me wonder how expensive this could be after warranty. It is odd that the default failure is not closed.

Dealer was great as usual and will simply take in next week when parts arrive.

Glad it's a simple fix, good luck.

The fact that it defaults to the up position is concerning. BMW advises against carrying liquids in the trunk do to all the electronics housed there. I can't imagine getting caught in a deluge of rain with my trunk stuck open. Scary.
