Is there a difference between the font used on pre-2002 3'ers and the 2002 model? It looked (from some recent photos on the board here) like the 2002 uses a slightly more italicized font... take a look:

I haven't been inside a 2002 MY yet, so I can't verify that this isn't just a photography error (i.e. scewed perspective). I really dig the italic version...

That's a 330 thing. They have the chrome rings and different fonts on a lighter colored face.

I don't know about later production cars, but up to June 2000 the sedans have the upright font and coupes got the italicized fonts.

Hack is right. It has nothing to do with years. Coupes have the italicized font and sedans have the non-italicized font.

There's so many numbers and lines on the speedo, the italicized font might take up too much room (half joking, but half serious)

Gotta like the Canadian/Euro 330ci gauges - only one set of numbers!

I've never seen that before - first time was when I test drove a 330ci. I really liked it - made for a very clean display. :thumb:

I've driven 1/3 of my 100k km's in the US and trust me it's a huge PITA to constantly convert in my head. Esp. when your radar detector goes off, you have to do the conversion. Of course, you get good at it... but how much would it have cost to add the miles on there? or at least the important ones?

There is that, but I'm old enought that I still know how fast 60mph is..

But not that old!

And why do you need a radar detector? YOu don't speed, do you? :angel:

You don't need that...Just know that when your needle point straight up you're going 85 mph.

I bought a used Canadian 540i from Ebay a couple years ago from a Canadian Mercedes dealer. I figured they would have both kilometers and miles on the instrument cluster, like we do. Wrong!

It added a really cool "foreign" feel to the whole experience, driving around in my new metric bimmer. After a while it got tiresome to divide by two and add 10% everytime I looked at the speedometer, so as my first performance mod, I had the dealer switch out the cluster. $700 later, the car seemed a lot more ordinary. It never drove the same after that -- the soul had been ripped right out of it.
