Might want to try to see if Escort has any returns that they will sell for a discount.

I know Valentine does it, and while the savings wasn't really substantial (I think it was like $350 for a return/refurb vs. $400 retail), if Escort does it, that may bring the 8500 model into the $150 price range.

If this dude's in the Austin area as well, make sure he doesn't get one that interfere with the V1! pisses me off when some dude with a cheap detector drives up and makes my V1 beeps like crazy coz his detector leaks. 2 dudes in my apartment have detectors that make my V1 beeps! I'm *this* close to tell them to get a better detector.

I had a Escort Solo Cordless before the V1, it was good, and I know it doesn't interfere with the V1, but I think it's ~$200 when I bought it. I sold it on eBay for $150 or something after 3 years! =)

The Solo was alright, but wasn't good enough and I still got a ticket on 71 from Houston to Austin... doing 71 in a 65 mph zone, yeah, seriously, that was stupid.

WOW! that's nuts! I'm driving to Houston and back on Saturday and will probably be giving my 8500 a real workout.

Better keep it under 100 though--I don't have time to go to the pokey. :yikes:

If you take 71, be careful. With a V1 it's no problem though, after I bought my V1, I went with a friend to pick up his S4 in Houston, on the way there, there were like 5 cops catching people with radars. The V1 picked them up like 2 miles before I could see them, my friends in my car were totally sold on the V1. The dude with the S4 ended up buying one himself. But you never know, maybe now the cops there have bought a few laserguns...

If you're only willing to spend that much, you're betting off buying nothing and putting the money in a "ticket fund". Any detector you can buy for that price is nothing more than an expensive noisemaker. You'll get *some* advance warning but mostly you'll get false alarms. More annoying than useful. And ytou'll end up turning the thing off (to keep from being annoyed) and it'll be off when you hit radar.

Good point! Are there detectors that work for laser? If not there really doesnt appear to be a reason to spend the money, at least in my area......

i usually take 290 cuz my friend's live right off the toll after 290... cops dont seem to be a prob there. i cannot believe you got a ticket for 71 in a 65, what a prick cop. a friend of mine got a ticket about a month ago going 80 on 35 in georgetown, which i think is ridiculous too b/c EVERYONE goes 80 there... oh well, see you this afternoon
