Hi All,

I am getting ready to buy a radar detector. I am leaning towards the Valentine 1. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Without trying to be rude, my suggestion would be to search the forums for Radar Detectors and/or V1's. I can already tell you V1 is, hands down, the most recommended one on the forum and it has been discussed at great length in different posts.

a little secret, ask Valentine 1 for a 'vacation return' it will save you $!

(people buy them, use it on vacation, then return it= Vacation return. They sell them for dicounted prices. Mine, it was a brand new vacation return)

Yeah, buy a V1! We have 3, one for each car.

Having owned both, the Valentine and Passport, my choice is the Passort. Different strokes I suppose. I really like the multiple signal strength meters for multiple bogies as well as displaying which band each alert actually is.

Either one should save your a$$,

RadarTest.com is a crappy biased site that charges money for radar detector test results and it is owned and operated by Craig Peterson who works for Escort and Bel and is a known hater of the Valentine One.

http://valentine1.com/lab/V1Hater.asp

"Amidst all the allegations of invalid test methodology and unfairness were suggestions that Peterson showed undue favoritism to the BEL unit because he has consulted for the company."

In the March, 1996, issue, Peterson replied, "Having consulted to every major detector manufacturer, suggestions that BEL received preferential treatment are nonsense."

He's wrong on that point too. He's never been a consultant to Valentine Research, although he's approached us more than once. We declined his advances each time."

And let me guess where the last quote came from.... Valentine. Oh, I now see you posted the link. That source may be a bit biased as well, don't you think?

But I agree, the radartest.com site has changed over the years and realized this after I had posted the link. Having to pay to download their results and reports is pure bull sh*t.

My results were based on having both mounted to my dashboard for several weeks. I'd like to find a true 3rd party test pitting one against another....

I have a Solo 2, cordless and small with no tell-tale cord hanging down. It works really well. V1 is supposed to be the best. However, with the increasing use of Lidar, they're becoming less and less useful.

I like my V1 very much. It's something I bought over 5 years ago, and I will upgrade it soon (about 1/2 the cost of it new.) No regrets, and I am now so accustomed to it's sensitivity and how it sounds off to different radar/laser sources that I trust it implicitly.
