Has anyone done any of their own 0-60 time testing? I've seen a lot of conflicting data in these pubs that I think are just restating data from other places instead of actually doing their own testing.

Ex: April 2002 Motortrend shows for M Roadster:
0-60: 4.74 1/4mi: 13.15 @ 107.56 mph 0-100: 15.87? (they just did 107.56 in 13.15!)

Road & Track Online (Dec. 2001): 0-60: 5.1 1/4/mi: 13.6 @ 103.4

Road & Track Annual Road Test 2002: same as one above with added 0-100: 12.3

2001 BMW ///M Brochure: 0-60: TBD

2002 BMW Spec: 0-60: 5.0 or 5.1 (depending on which source you look at)

I guess what I'm suspecting that in some cases, in lieu of real testing, I think these car magazines just quote some other source for times.

Anybody got any REAL performance numbers for the S54 M Roadster/Coupe? If what I suspect is the case (that BMW understated the performance to not detract from the M3 sales @ MSRP plus), did I get the performance bagain of the year at 41K?

Short of Motortrend's wacked 0-100 everything looks fine :dunno:

Driver skill and track conditions play a huge role and the times really are close enough to be pseudo-consistant.

To qoute a local fellow here:
"I've never even drove a Viper and now you're asking me to race one?"

and then he was in a Viper for the first time going down the 1/4 mile :yikes:

It really was quite funny


edit: and yes the new M Roadster is one quick machine even with the castrated exhaust. Don't have the specs with me - but isn't it lighter than the M3?

Almost like the wisper numbers before corporate earnings season.

A guys on roadfly said Automobile and C&D got 4.5 for 0-60 for S54 M Roadster.

I know a pretty fanatical (enough to try it)guy with an 01 M Roadster that said he did his own (I was not there so it is heresay) and was around 4.5.

Motortrend's 4.7 is pretty close then.

I'm also willing to bet that the roadfly guys are @ sealevel? I don't know if the others are corrected or not.

Time for you to head out to the 1/4 mile and do your own tests! :thumb:

Or some quote like that. I just got a little suspicious when I saw a 0-60 time somewhere for the 240 hp version at 5.2 sec and then I see the 315 hp version listed at 5.1 or 5.0 :dunno:

When you say 'corrected', would a test take things like altitude, humidity, temp, etc. into account and then adjust the number?

The M///Roadster is 284 pounds lighter that the M-3 coupe, that's a lot! Just think of how a 284 pound passenger would affect your performance. It is a whopping 650 pounds lighter than the M-3 Cab! The "castrated" exhaust is helped by installing a race performance Eisenmann. The difference is noticeable. As well as a fifteen pound weight savings, the Eisenmann on the M///Roadster comes with full diameter SS pipes that removes those stupid "crimps" that the stock exhaust had.

Or to save even more weight, get a tunable SuperTrapp system and save about 50lbs over stock M Coupe/Roadsters boat anchor OE exhaust setup. Save at least 30lbs over other aftermarket exhausts

They sound amazing and look like nothing else on the road, but do require some custom exhaust work. Need to find a quality shop.

Will have pics of mine next week. Requires custom work on the exhaust, but it will be way cool and save a ton of weight.

Until then, go here to see pics and install. His are 4" ending diameter whereas mine will be 5". Pipe inlet is 2.5" They look really different but are the most functional setup available out of all the aftermarket exhausts. They will cost the same as a Supersprint setup, yet they will weight about 20lbs less and be tunable for sound as well as torque/HP by a spacer system that acts on backpressure to the engine. They sound amazing. Plus you get the added benefit of 3-4% hp gain.

They do excellent work designing great systems for BMW"s. Speak with Jay...did extensive work searching bimmer.org/z3 coupe group and these guys kept coming up as great!

Lastly, the Tires you want are Falkin Azenis Sports w/ assymetrical tread design. For performance and cost, they cannot be beat.
