Rear Air Bag Configuration Confusion

OK, I'm a little confused about the rear airbag option on the 3 Series sedan.

For MY 2003, is any rear air bag standard equipment?

Why in the MY 2002 options for rear air bag is there a note that states "includes rear air bag deactivation"?

It states that because if you order the airbags, they are deactivated by default to allow you to put child seats in the back. When you specify the car preferences upon delivery, you can have your dealership turn them on (as I did). HTH!

Thanks, that makes sense now. I was wondering why they needed to be turned off if you ordered them. My kids are finally past car seat age.
