Looks like there was an option for red leather.

The 1998 colors and options brochure lists a classic red interior (Klassischrot) with Jacquard cloth seats (order code E2GD) or leather/cloth seats (code C7GD).

 

Also, look in the engine compartment at the strut towers to see if there's a sticker by the paint color sticker that states "INDIVIDUAL". That's how cars that were custom ordered are marked.

A 1993 brochure also lists the classic red interior with full leather seats. I also found some color cards for the Individual-program that list Mogello-red with leather seats.

 

Taninrot is "dream red". Looks an awful lot like what used to be called "cardinal red" in the E24s. (not my favorite interior color).

 

it isn't leather though it's kinda weird
