Hi, I'm new to these boards as I just purchased a 2000 M Roadster the other day. I noticed that the instrument lights do not light up. I did a little research and found that the shift knob had torn wires, probably causing the dimmer switch to short out, therefore no dash lights. My question is; How can/should I replace this part? I read somewhere that I can access the switch through the air vent above the lights, but I tried removing it (didn't use much force), and it didn't budge. Can anyone provide a better approach, or should I just be using more force (I don't want to break anything). Thanks for your help!

Silly ?, did you check the 5 amp fuse under the hood, I can't remember which one it was but, when I added the lighted shift knob to mine I touched the wires........ it was a 5 amp fuse.

Normally the rheostat is the fuse. Not much rheostat when up full.
