Does the fan need to come off to replace the belts? Anyone have a DIY for this job? What sockets do I need to release the tensioners?

I was able to swap the tranny fluid and fuel filter last night so I'm hoping I can handle this job.

I was able to replace both belts without removing the fan. It isn't easy, but it can be done. My tensioners used a 6 or 7mm allen wrench to relieve the pressure.

Much easier with the fan out of the way. Let me say it again - way easier with the fan off :) Plus it is not even that hard to get it off. Takes about 30 sec with the right tools.

Tensioners are 8mm on a S52. Good luck!

if you can handle tranny fluid and fuel fitler you skill level is plenty high enough to tackle the belt situation

you should be able to handle it without removing the fan, serpentine's are much easier than the older V belts.
