Replacing CHAMP2 Business Navigation F10 LCI

1246 Views 27 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  shawnsheridan
Hello,

I have a 2013 F10 LCI that has the small screen business navigation, also known as CHAMP2. I’m planning retrofitting the rear view camera, but it seems that my current navigation unit lacks some video module needed do display then image of the rear view camera. The retrofit documentation states that the Navi should have either TV function or DAB support, and my unit has neither . I know that upgrading to NBT would be better, but not for me as the car has the combo box unit also, and doing the NBT retrofit would mean modifying the installation and I just don’t want to do this. Also I would lose the ability to send navigation destinations via the My BMW app directly to the car.

So, what I thought is the following: replacing my current CHAMP2 unit with another one that has either the TV function or the DAB support. With the help of realoem I have identified the following part that would be exchangeable for my car:

Rectangle Font Circle Screenshot Number

So, I have searched a unit with the code 65129317872 on eBay. I have found several but it seems they were installed on a F20 or F30. I have several questions, maybe someone knows the answer:

1. The new unit needs to be flashed in order to have the VIN changed? ( I would probably go to a specialist)

2. One the unit is installed and flash on my car, it will behave like it was installed from the factory on a 5 series? I’m concerned about what picture will appear when I change the driving mode. Currently it displays a sedan 5 series F10. If I take a unit that was on a 1 series, it will display a hatchback F20, even after the unit was flashed?

Thank you in advance!

Hi, @shawnsheridan, sorry to tag you like this but you seems to be the man, can you please help me with what might be some silly questions of mine?
If you are lucky, you can just install a replacement CHAMP2 Head Unit, Inject CAFD, and VO Code it without having to flash it, and then activate the FSC Codes. Your biggest issue is the FSC Codes. Ideally you would use your OEM FSC Codes for Navigation Application, Navigation Enabler, Voice Recognition, Media Player, etc. If Donor CHAMP2 Head Unit contains FSC Codes with a newer Creation Date than your VIN Matching FSC Codes, you will NOT be able to use yours, meaning you would need to use an Emulator / Activation module and the Donor FSC Codes.
I see, thank you, I will search for an older CHAMP2 unit with the specifications I want and use my FSC codes.

Hi, Shawn,

Quick update: I have ordered today a CHAMP2 unit from a 2012 F10 ( mine is 2013) that should allow me to retrofit the reverse camera, so I guess I should be good with replacing its FSC codes with mine. I noticed you can find online OEM FSC repair kits based on your VIN. I guess I`ll order one.

Since this will be my first time coding with e-sys, I will post here what I will do, the exact steps for CAFD injection, VO coding and applying the FSC codes, to get a confirmation. I don`t want to mess anything :D

Thank you!

Hi, Shawn,

As I said, I made a guide for replacing my 2013 F10 LCI CHAMP2 unit another one from a 2012 F10, and I will post it below for reviewing:

CHAMP2 unit replacement steps:

1. Open E-sys and save current FA

2.Replacing phisically the unit

3.Inject CAFD (still needed if the unit is from a pre-LCI 2012 F10 and my car is a 2013 LCI?)

CAFD injection should be done using the following procedure:
Connect => Read FA (VO) => Activate FA (VO) => Read SVT (VCM)
=> Left-Click on HU_CIC => Click on "Detect CAF for SWE" =>
Select the CAFD from the Latest I=Level => Select OK =>
Right-Click on HU_CIC (the ECU itself not the underlying CAFD) =>
Select CODE.

4.VO code the unit ( I assume I should use the FA file save in the first step - considering I don`t need to modify SALAPA-element).

VO coding should be done using the following procedure:

Connect=> Go to Expert Coding=>Select VCM=>Load the FA saved in the first step in the botton section, go to Vehicle Order, click the 3 dots and chose the deisred file => Once the file is loaded, under the Vehicle Order section, right-click FA and select calculate FP=>Once the FP is calculated, press the master tab at the bottom of the screen and select "Write FA & FP button" and check for the confirmation =>Return to Expert Mode, go to Coding and press "Read ECU" under the SVT section => find the CHAMP (HU_CHAMP) unit ECU, right click on it and press "Code"

5.Buy an OEM FSC Repair kit ( is this one good: bit.ly/3EWNrj8 ?) - or they can be saved from my current unit?

6.Change the VIN in the Esys FSC section ( diagnostic address 0x63) using WriteDataByIdentifier VIN => Enter my own VIN => press Start

7.Check the folder where the FSC codes files are ( meaning what I have bought) and it should have multiple files with extension .fsc ( each one enabling a specific option), as well one file called FSCS.der and one called SIGS.der

8.FSC section => StoreSIGCert=> choose the SIGS.der file, set Application number to 0x1B and Upgrade index to 0x01 =>hit Start

9.FSC section, create a batch => StoreFSCCert=> choose the FSCS.der file => add CheckFSCCert to the batch => add StoreFSC to the batch=> add CheckFSC to the batch => set Application number to the corresponding FSC
certificate and choose that FSC certificate to be stored ( for example, if you want to store the FSC certificate called 00170001.fsc, then application number should be 0x17) =>hit start

10.repeat step 9 for all the FSC certificates that need to be stored

11.FSC section, create a batch=> GetStatus => hit Start ( all statutes should be Accepted, but for maps FSC if status is rejected then I need a new FSC code generated for my VIN in order to update the navigation maps?)

12.Disconnect esys and switch ignition on and off?

Could you please let me know your opinion? Do you see anything wrong? Is this enough to accomplish what I want? I`m especially concerned about steps: 3,4,5,11, where I have mentioned specific questions.

At quick glance, seems fine. I can't comment on Repair Kit source. I wouldn't specify a specific one myself.

Hi, Shawn,

I have purchased the FSC kit, and I have received an archive that has the following content:

Handwriting Rectangle Font Violet Parallel

I figured it that I have received the FSC certificate ( files with .der extension) and the FSC codes in 2 versions ( Base 64 decoded - any file with that starts with FSC_ and NOT B64 decoded - any file that starts with D046565_ and has the .fsc extension). In E-Sys I need the Base 64 decoded versions. These supposed to be the certificates as they come from the factory. Do I still need the SIGS.der certificate? If so, where do I get this certificate? Can I save it from my current unit?

I have stumbled upon the following procedure:
Code:
e.g. xxxxxxx_00880004.xml

e.g. xxxxxxx_00880004.der (FSC Code Certificate)

e.g. xxxxxxx_00880004.fsc (FSC Code)

E-Sys =>Options => Settings => FSC Tab => Certificate Field:

Load FSC Code Certificate (e.g. xxxxxxx_00880004.der)

E-Sys => Comfort Mode => FSC => FSC Field:

Load FSC Code (e.g. xxxxxxx_00880004.fsc)

FA Field: Select Read FA to use cars current VO.

Parameter Fields:

Diagnostic Address (hex) = 63

Application Number (dec) = 111 (6F in Hexidecimal In FSC File Name, e.g xxxxxxx_00880004.fsc)

Base Variant = HU_CHAMP

Upgrade Index = 1 (In FSC File Name, e.g xxxxxxx_00880004.fsc))

Select Upgrade FSC to Import and Activate FSC Code.
Now, my question is: Upgrading the FSC code and activate, the above procedure, produces the same result as step 9 from my previous post (the one where the StoreFSCCert option is used)?

You need just .der and .fsc.

Should be the same, but I would do this process rather than step 9 process.

You need to do this process for 1B, 46, and 71, not 88 as it is the map FSC Code. Open 88 .fsc, and you will see the 20 Digit Alphanumeric Code to be entered via iDrive Controller.

Hi, Shawn,

I`m getting File for "cafd_000000f9-007_003_116" not found! error message. I assume that`s because of my psdzdata version. Do you know what version I should be using and does it happen that you have a link to download? Thank you! :)

LE: Shaw, I think I did it. I have managed to download a Psdz data lite version 49.3 that contains the missing cafd file. Now the CAFD injection, VO coding and FSC upgrading were successful. The navigation is activated.

I`m missing the service history and BMW Services list is a lot shorter ( I used to have in there options like: BMW Online, but they are missing now). The service history I guess it will appear to the next dealership visit, but the BMW services options will come back after a sleeping cycle or I need a newer CAFD file?

Not a CAFD issue. You need to Provision car. From iDrive ConnectedDrive, you need to Update Services and let car sleep after.

Hi, Shawn,

Small update, it seems that I’m missing the Connected Drive or Connected Services menu option, which I used to have. I don’t remember having a menu option called BMW services. Is this something that I’m missing in my coding or maybe it’s a FSC code that I don’t have?

No, there is no FSC Code for this. There may not be such a menu in CHAMP2.
I see, I will switch back the old unit then, as that one has it. I’m thinking that between units with different part numbers some may have it, while others don’t.

The old unit should go back without any coding, right?
