Like the M2 before it, BMW is turning up the wick on the M5 Competition, which will feature several visual updates and an extra 25 hp, according to a forum member from bimmerpost.

The poster claims have an M5 Competition on order and a contact in Munich who has been feeding him information.

According to ljb, the M5 Competition will make 25 more horsepower and will be able to hit 60 in just 3.3 seconds-one tenth faster than the current model. That should be good to get the M5 Competition to a 305 km/h (190 mph) top speed with M Drivers package.

The motor will exhale through a Sports Exhaust with Competition-specific tuning and it will handle the bumps better thanks to a revised (read lower and firmer) suspension set up.

Black badging, black front and side grilles, and a blacked lower rear bumper will all set the Competition apart, as will a high gloss black trunk lip and an M Carbon engine cover.

If the information proves to be correct, it could become relevant to the 7 and 8 series as well. The 8 Series was already rumored to get the M5's V8, and trademark applications uncovered yesterday also suggested that an M7 might follow suit.

The M5 Competition should start seeing showrooms in September.
