I'm planning to retrofit the 540i/m5 steering wheel with multi function button into my 2000 e39 528iT.

I have not had time to check my steering wheel, but I need a quick answer since I found one local sale for cheap.
The one I have right now does not has the buttons, but previous owner had swap the OEM with some victor steering wheel. So I don't know if my car ever came with multi function and he just swap it or if the wires are there.
So will this be a direct swap? what kind of slip ring/airbag does my car has, I assume it's dual air bag since production date is 2000-05-03. the one on sale is dual stage and multi function.

I appreciate all the info

I think multi function steering was standard on all cars. But to really know input the last 7 digits of your vin into realoem.com at the bottom you'll see a short list with all the options your car should have came equipped with.

Use the search bar or Google to search for "e39 sport steering wheel diy". It's already been done and documented few times.
