Rims/Tires for best performance (330xi)

I have a 2002 330xi w/ SP, and it comes with the type 79 double-spoke rims and somewhat thin tires for better winter performance.

I want better cornering, so as I've heard, having wider tires would create this feel, is this correct?

assuming this is correct, what are the downsides to having these tires aside from winter performance?
(is acceleration slower or faster w/ the wider tires?)

(just to put things into perspective, I'd probably be getting the M68 wheels.)

thanks.

Get the M68's with some summer tires. It is definitely a step up from the 205/50/17 all seasons. For the winter you could stick with the all seasons or if you are in serious snow country, like me, I'd recommend getting some snows. I went with Michelin Pilot Alpins all around in the winter and going through the snow with the AWD was like driving on dry pavement.

Now if we could just get BMW to dump the increased ride height idea for the next generation xi's .... and maybe an ///M version?:)

How about some 17x7.5 Type 44s on 225/45-17 tires? That would be nice. Or maybe some nice BBS rims? Or if you have dough, some Fikse forged rims :)

How about some new spings to get rid of the jacked up look.

BMW rims are HEAVY and expensive. I'd recommend some of the lighter BBS or SSR rims. (I prefer the look of the OEM wheels, but would never buy another set. Free acceleraration is a GOOD thing.)

Does changing the unsprung weight mess with the suspension setup, or is it not significant enought to be noticable?

Thanks,
