Hey Guys I had that shimmy in my steering wheel on my 2001 E39 530i. I got new tires and the shimy started. I had t he wheels balanced twice with no luck. finlayy i found a GoodYear store that has a machine that can check for road force on the tires. they found out that one tire was out of round. They replaced the tire with a new one. MY SHIMMY IS FINALLY GONE. Word to all if you get new tires and the car shakes have you tires checked for road force, this might save you a lot of money form getting new control arms etc etc etc

Hunter GSP9700 (maybe DSP9700) is the best machine for the job. Many Discount Tire shops have it. Good to hear you got it fixed!

I used to work at a shop and i have to vouch for the road force variation balancer. Not nly did it measure tire and wheel runout it also tells you EXACTLY where to put the weights by stopping the rotation where the weights are to be applied. for Hunter machines!
