Got them on today....feels like I got suspension mods. Car is much more precise. Less noise than the Dunlop SP Sports. Less tramlining.

Awesome tires!

Okay, whats "Tramlining"..2nd time I've heard this on the BBS...:dunno:
Another thing, you took today off but didn't okay it with me. Sent ya email today, no replies! Thats it, I'm having your boss dock your pay! :D
Tramlining...

... is when your tire hits a groove or dent in the road and wants to follow it.

I want to get me some S-03s as well. Gotta start searching for a deal.

Why is this OT, btw? Seems perfectly fine for the main forum to me.

Well I wasn't sure sine it is not directly BMW related. got mine from Tirerack BUT had to go to 3 places to get them mounted because you need a shop with new machines.

Rip,
I got no emails from you today in my inbox.
:( My conti-sports seem to have a lot of "tramlining"
I noticed this as soon as I took off my winter tires.
they had a lot less "tramlining" ..
What actually causes this phenomemon:dunno:

Larger diameter wheels (17, 18, 19s) aggrevate this problem. Tramlining is a side effect of the larger contact patch that comes with wider tires or lower profile tires. Basically the larger your contact patch the more pronounced the tramlining effects are.

Must have something to do with tire construction too because I'm using the same size tires and it is much less pronounced...on some really crappy roads
what were you running before?

'haus:

were you running conti touring before or contisports or something?

am guessing the stiffer sidewalls of hte s03s make quite the difference, huh? plus they're that much more difficult to install.

Yeah, the shop I went to has some serious equipment, and they said it took both of them (two guys own and run the shop) to get my Michelin Pilots on the rims. One said "A real tight fit".

Glad you like the S0-3's. My experience was the same - the Pilots are a HUGE improvement. Not just in handling - the ride quality and noise level is great too!

So, I guess you would recommend 03's when my conti rears on my M3 18ins wear out?
The S03's are incredible. I've got pilots on my 525 and the S03s beat them by a long shot.

Blackdawg: I had Dunlop SP Sports on my car from the factory, wore them out in lapping sessions hence the new rubber after only a year :D

I had to go to 3 different shops to get them installed because they are such a tight fit. You have to find a place with the latest and greatest tire machine $15K for the machine according to the shop that did mine. :yikes:
