As you can see on the pictures all side windows of my 535i have scratching tracks near the column B. A think a single track would be caused by a little stone or something else. But every side window on the same place? Could this be a constructional flaw?

Has anyone picked up similar experience?

Hello. Yes, I have the same issue....fine scrathes on the proliferated edges of all 4 windows. It was pointed out to me when I went to get the windows tinted...although mine does not look nearly as bad as yours.

All my windows have scrathes too...

Here are the pics of the scrathes along the side of all the windows on my 550. All 4 windows have some degree of scrathing.

That's an interesting fact. Your side windows show the same pattern. That cannot be an accident.

Next days I will discuss this problem with my BMW dealer. I keep you informed about the results. If he refuses my complaint I will contact BMW directly.

News from my dealer...

I'm happy, it exists a case at BMW. The reason for this is a faulty window duct. My dealer will discuss this with BMW directly and if all get right, my car gets new side windows and new window lifter. Hope, BMW accepts a fairness request.

Good news from my dealer...

Gotcha!!

Thanks to BMW for their fairness. My GT is 3 years old and nevertheless they takes over all costs.
I'm very lucky about this decision. Within this repair I get the original tinted windows from BMW
without additonal charge. Merely the little fixed side windows must be paid by me (material only).
But that's ok for me

I realize this thread is older, but I am curious what was repaired regarding the scratches on the windows?

OP, what did your repair consist of?

Any others with this problem? It isn't an obvious defect, so many should look before assuming that their windows aren't scratched. The problem was pointed out to me, but it is clearly a problem done at the manufacturer.

My dealer didn't inform me about the details, but he said, every window lifter and side windows were replaced.

I ahve the same issue on my 2011 and the dealer said it was dirt in the tracks. They cleaned them but it is still happening. Back to the dealer I guess.

I don't think dirt is causing the scrathes...

I don't think dirt is causing the scratches...and besides, once they are scrathed, they are scratched. The OP had to have his windows REPLACED.

I think more people probably have the same issue, but just haven't noticed. I am very meticulous and it had to be pointed out to me.

I have a 2010 550i and had the same problem shortly after having the windows tinted. Dealer said they saw the issue before. Dirt get into a guide and scratching occurs. They replaced all windows and hardware under warranty. Lucky me.

I don't open and close my windows a lot (probably the driver window the most) ... is this issue being caused by repeated opening/closing of windows over a long time or is it a sudden happening?

Very common in BMW's according to the guy who tinted ours. Combination of BMW using a "softer" glass and having tighter tolerances is what he stated...he even said he has seen some so bad they have vertical scratches across the whole window.

Maybe I don't open and close my windows as often as others?? I've not been bothered by this nor can I comment about "soft glass" :dunno:

I think this is something that clearly originates from the factory.
I learned to live with it because replacing all the windows seemed like more trouble than it was worth....even if it is covered under warranty. Maybe I will regret the decision to do nothing about it, maybe not.
Like others, the scratches are on all windows on my car too. Oddly enough, nobody noticed it except me and the guy who tinted my windows.
I am admittedly OCD...I am going to notice every nuance when it comes to my personal vehicle.

I did notice this on my fathers 335i. It was really bad in places and was almost the same from left to right sides. More on he front than the rear windows. it's sold now but it's something that I look for now in mine.

In saying that, does anyone do anything specific to help prevent this. we all wash the car, but is there anything you do to clean the window guides? I was thinking graphite powder but that might get messy when wet.
