I have a 1994 325i auto. conv. I want to replace the plate under the shifter. I need to remove the shift knob. It is tee shaped with a button/trigger on the bottom. I have read a number of forums that indicate thet you just need to PULL!!. But they all seem to relate to another style of kno,b (more rounded). any ideas??? Thanks

Those articles refer to manual shift knobs. idk what to do for imitation BMW shift knobs like yours.

There's a setscrew in the underside of the shifter handle. Loosen it and the handle will come off.

Coincidentally, I broke the shifter base surround on the 318 today. Leaned across the console to open the door and "pop".

Said set screw strips very easy, so be ready with an easy out in case it strips. Its an allen-head screw, IIRC 3mm or 4mm

While you're at it you should go ahead and do a manual transmission swap. I know a guy with all the parts (it's me) :eeps:.
