Shifter Not Centered After Clutch Replacement

Hey all, I recently did a clutch replacement on my 02' 325ci. The install went pretty smooth but when connecting my shifter linkage back up, the shifter sits very far forward inside the car, so far forward that it won't shift into 1st, 3rd, or 5th gears because the wall of the shifter compartment makes contact with the shifter. I'm a 17 year old kid trying to figure things out with this car, any tips or advice is beyond helpful. Other forums I read suggest dropping the transmission to change the detent pins, but that doesn't sound like my issue.

It's not the detent pins - when those go bad, they bind up and it causes the shifter to flop over left/right which makes finding the gates for 3rd and 4th gears tricky (the car can still be driven).
There are two linkages that connect to the trans, it sounds like the upper stationary link is out of wack. Make sure you reconnected it properly. There's a pin that holds it onto the transmission housing.
