Shifting is smoother in warm weather

So I've got a mere 4,000 miles on my car after receiving it here in October (Euro delivery pickup in September). This week we're having the warmest weather since I got the car- up into the 80's here in Indiana. And shifting gears is, all of a sudden, really smooth. The shifter just drops into gear so smoothly. Acceleration even seems more fluid. This car keeps getting better. It's like buttah! :)

You just hit the magic "real" break-in mileage. Most everyone I talked to said their BMW "opened" up at around 4,000 miles.

Hopefully you won't be affected by the prevailent "Sticky Pedal Syndrome" which seems to only occur in warm weather, after about 5,000 miles! :yikes:

That's exactly when I started seeing it. Actually closer to 4500 miles. Last 2 days in the 90s here and the pedal felt like there was bubble gum in the hinge area:mad: :thumbdwn:

Hopefully the fix will come to fruition next month as projected:dunno:

Mine shifts smoother in warm weather too. Feels goooood :D
I'm not sure about the milage's effect on it, though. My car was already in the 20,000+ kms when it got cold and shifts got noticably rougher.
The heat keeps the tranny fluid flowing, and thusly your shifts will be smoother from startup onward. The same thing will happen if it's 20 degrees out and you go for a nice 20-30min drive. ;)
Yup. There really seems to be a sudden change with temperature. It warmed up maybe 25 degrees from Sunday to Monday. And on Monday, the shifting was smoother than Sunday right away. I've got a short commute to work (3 miles), so in cold weather the car is not often really warmed up for me to get to that smooth flowing.

The difference in 'smoothness' is probably subtle enough that few people would notice it, other than those here on the board. But it's just a great, 'feel' to the car. I guess that's why I got a BMW. :)
