Has anyone had TSB:

640101 JAN 01 A/C System - Musty Odors

performed on their cars? If so can you tell me what the service center actually did, and if there was any charge for it?

I had my car into my dealer yesterday for other things and mentioned the odor and they fed me the line that the A/C system would need to be deoderized which wasn't a warranty repair and would cost $140??? WTF.

Thanks for any insight.

May want to do a search on .org -- I think it was some sort of aerosol product (Lysol?) that was sprayed on one of the filters. It'll come back though -- the condensation from the A/C creates mold so you need to dry it out by turning off the A/C and running heat or just dry air a few minutes before shutting off the car.

I remember the Lysol fix from the .org, but I thought that was something that 31st330i or someone else came up with as a temp solution before BMW's fix. I figured the BMW TSB was a more permanent fix then spray lysol in the A/C system. I will do a search, thanks.

I had that going on in other cars, but for the past 5 years I've been applying something I learned from my dad that seems to work pretty well...

I turn the AC off a block or two from my final destination... He explained to me how that helps avoid bad odors at the time, but I confess I forgot about that part... :dunno: Hey, as long as it works...:thumb:
