I am retrofitting an OEM rear view camera in my 2017 F31 (VIN K868269).
I am using OEM parts (module, camera, etc.) and following the original BMW instructions (see in attached).

I have installed everything and am currently finalizing the wiring. And that is when I see something unexpected. The instructions call for tapping the Kcan wires from FEM A173 which are pins 51 and 52 using connector H.

However, when I open A173 in my car pins 51 and 52 don't have any wires!

Any ideas on how to proceed? Suggestions welcomed!

Thank you all!

I know it is not the same car (not a F30/31) but this video from KIES shows most of the installation process and is exactly as the BMW instructions.

In the video, the connector A173 DOES HAVE pins 51 and 52 with wires: Jump to min 25:00. So I don't know how to proceed with my installation... any idea on how to connect these wires? Many thanks to all of you.

I don't know if I have K-CAN wires at pins 33 and 34 on A173*7B, but ISTA says that there are K-Can there...

...the same ISTA that says that there are K Can wires in A173*8B pins 51 and 52...

Will need to disassemble the footwell again to check... give me 15min

So I guess that my FEM has no K-CAN where I can tap my wires.
The rear-view camera module is placed in the driver's footwell (left). Is there another option to tap the K-CAN nearby?

I found this in ISTA (with my VIN and also connected to the car), but at this point, I am not too confident in ISTA information because it does not seem to represent my car.

@Markst
Possibility: where is K-CAN created/managed? Is it in FEM? If K-CAN is created in FEM then instead of tapping the wires to existing wires in pins 51/52, I can just connect with new pins there. Would this work?!

@Markst Are these possibilities?
1 -> If K-CAN is created in FEM then instead of tapping the wires to existing wires in pins 51/52, I can just connect with new pins there. Would this work?!
2 -> I am routing these wires from the rear view camera module in the driver footwell to the FEM in the passenger foorwell, passing just next to the HU. Are there KCAN connections in the HU that I can tap?

The car has no KCAN in use. That is why there in no KCAN wires in FEM or any other module.

I am trying to connect to the pins specified in the instructions since they were empty and also because the FEM might have KCAN in those pins.

As someone also suggested in other related post, it worked for him.

Follow-up:

1. Connected K-Can to pins 51 (green) and 52 (orange) using repair pins.
2. Connected ground to the ground "comb" behind the rear seats (driver side).
3. Connected power to fuse 159 in the rear fusebox (fuse 5A).
4. VO Coded the 3AG option.
5. Coded ECUs: NBT_HU, FEM_BODY, REM, ICM, TRSVC
WARNING
: the coding of the ICM went smoothly without errors. However, the car issued several errors regarding the adaptive steering and stability control. I think that we may not need to VO code ICM anyway... so if you are searching for info: don't code ICM unless you need to.

6. Cleared all errors with ISTA. However, the adaptive steering still shows errors in the ISTA module tree.
7. The TRSVC also shows errors because there are no surround view cameras. Note that the module I installed is NOT for surround view and only has one camera input.

8. Note that HU_NBT > EXBOX 3001 > CAMERA_SYSTEM = trsvc . This is the ONLY option that works. I tried ICAM_rvc, ICAM_high, ICAM2_rvc and ICAM2_high and none worked.

9. Conclusion: Rear View Camera is working... hurray! But camera quality in low light condition is too dark. My wife's 225xe camera is way better.

-> If someone knows how to correct the ICM and TRSVC errors feel free to pitch in. :)

-> Also: is there a way to remove the top view of the car and sensors on the screen, so that the camera is shown full screen?

I leave here some images for your delight.
