Some BMW tidbits from UK mags that I picked up today...

From Top Gear

Executive Car of the Year: BMW 3-series :thumb:

"Such is the attention to detail on display in the 3-Series that nothing can touch it for all-round sheer brilliance. Virtually perfect....The suspension upgrade and new steering rack has made the best even better"

Best Smal Car: Mini Cooper

"A riot to drive and great fun to sit in, it's fair to say it blew our bloody doors off!"

The 7 also won an award, for "Most Complex Car Ever" :p

The Car of the Year was the new Range Rover....

Also from BMW CAR

Nice article about future BMWs. Lots of 6 series spy shots. Includes a side shot of the new 6 compared to the E31 and E24. It is pretty similar to the others, but with the obviously disguised body. Also some X3 info. The 6 will be "a lean, taunt sports coupe-just like the original"

Also the compare the E65 735i to the E38 735i...."Body roll is pretty well contained, it turns in well and grips well - this is going to be fun. Hustling alon the back roads of Surrey, this two-tonne (E65) monster shrinks around me like a 3 Series....Yes, it seems like the poor old E38 hasn't really got a leg to stand on. Unless you really don't think the shape of the new car will ever grow on you. Like most things it takes some getting used to, but I think that in six months time we'll all be wondering what the fuss was about. If each new generation of BMW can be this much of a step forward then we're in for some cracking good machines."

Also, from an OLD issue of BMW CAR, August '99; If found this interesting quote from an E39, E34, and E28 M5 comparo "It has been long-awaited, not only because it promises to be a brilliant drive, but to see if BMW's Motorsport have re-descovered their magic touch that produced such greats as the E30 M3 and the original M5. The essence of these early cars is that they are fun to drive, communicating so well with the driver, which is something that the most recent M-powered cars, such as the E36 M3 fail to do." They thought the E28 was the most fun to drive, partially because "The problem (with the E39) is that its cornering ability is so high that you have to be going ridiculously fast to get anywhere near its limits....Even though the latest incarnation of the M5 is really just too fast for British roads, it would be our choice. It is an instant licence looser, but what a way to go" I can attest to the last statement having recieved a ticked for 25 over in one  Good thing they didn't catch me a few miles back :p

:yikes: I know about the rack, but WHAT suspension upgrades?

Whatever...

This quit being fun a long time ago. I think Nate is nuts. He thinks I am.

To keep me from being tempted to read his misinformation, he's now on my Ignore List.

Since you can't see this, it doesn't really matter....

BUT, for others...

These are published aritcles, but reputable writers. The E46 did receive suspension and steering improvements. (but I guess that it is irrelevent since the car is a fat pig  ) I thought since most of us are BMW enthusiasts, that we would like to know this info, but I guess some of us can't accept reality :dunno:

As for the fun to drive regarding the E28, E34, and E39; I have driven all series, but not an E28 M5. I agree with the article's statement that the old cars may be immediately more fun BUT less capable than the new ones. The new ones are MORE REWARDING to drive fast and do everything better. Hell, I had fun driving my 1979 Vovlo 242DL, I just love to drive. Anything, anywhere, anytime can be rewarding for me.

(now, someone quote me so that TD has to read this :thumb: )

I would challenge ANYONE to find where I have purposefully posted misinformation. I did make a mistake with the Z8 designer, but that was not on purpose. It just seems that TD's argument is more based on conjecture than acutal published reviews and factual information :dunno:

No problem, Adrian...

Does this mean that I can become a product tester for the V-10 M6? :yikes: :thumb:

Nate

Looks like you made a new friend:thumb:
BTW I never thought you posted any misinformation, but what do I know since all I have driven is my E36 and my "bloated" E46:dunno:

Thanks vexed :thumb:

To say that I have tried to mislead people offends me...I would never post something that I felt to be incorrect.

Don't worry. Top Gear certainly is one. I got all Tiff Needle's reviews from them :thumb:

I guess the concept of "love at first sight" is foreign to these guys. :yikes: :yikes:
