right now it's only a 3.6L car.

when they move up to 3.8L, which they probably will before they plant a v8 in the 911's buttocks for the 997....it will be much faster again.

the whole reason why the 911GT3Rs spanked the e46m3PTG car originally was because of the torque difference coming out of slow corners. that's why they put in a v8.

and i'd bet even if they allowed a v8 PTG car in again, porsche would spank them with their 3.8litre car. just a guess.

Well, if the next 911 will be V8, the rumors of a V8 M3 or M4 for the next generation will almost certainly come true.

Rear engined V8? hmm....I think Porsche should stick with the 6.

Not necessarily a bad idea...

How about a Ford V8 in an European (British) two-seater? Carroll Shelby was onto something then: the strength of a European chassis with the power of an American V8 became known as the AC Cobra.

Interesting how the headers come forward and then down...I wonder if it was a clearance issue. The dyno numbers are confusing to me...511 hp at the rear wheels? He mentions that the dips were due to tire spin so I'd have to assume he was on a chassis dyno. If that's the case and those were the numbers he got, the motor is putting out over 575 hp....DAMN!

I suspect that BMW tranny isn't going to hold up too long....

Not a bad idea, but using an LS1 in an M3 is just kinda strange :dunno:

It probably is better and more tunable than a S62 though....

Could be a situation like with the M3. I remember back on the roadfly M3 board when people suggested using the 4.4 or 4.9 V8's in the E46. The critics came out yelling and said it would be way too heavy. Turth is, the V8's weigh LESS than the S54. :flipoff:

Maybe the 4.4L racing motor, but I don't think the M5's 4.9L S62 is lighter...

well, what's wrong with a 3.5 litre straight six still revving high? or a 3.6 litre v8 like ferrari? their engine goes to 8500rpms......oh wait, their car is also kicking the BMW/Williams' car tushie all over every circuit..........

No, nothing wrong with that, but a high displacement, high revving V8 would be better
