A 31 year old guy nearby won that Taco Bell "peel off" contest and he got a million bucks an a Mini Cooper. Vern Troyer (Mini-Me) was there to give him the check as he pulled through the drive through.

Get this: The yellow mini cooper they gave him was a manual transmission. His response "Well jeeze, i dunno, i guess i done better trade it in for an automatic now, huh?."

he's far from being set for life winning $1,000,000.

After taxes that's around $600,000. At 31, that's a nice nest egg, but he will still have to work into his 50's IMO.

I dunno...i dont think a cool million would settle it at his age. Ive heard that a person at retiring age should have $1.5 million stashed away to continue living a comfortable lifestyle. Of course this figure depends on a lot of things.

BTW, he said he was gonna work for 9 more years until he is forty.

set for life. It would set me for life, I could pay my bills of the interest. If my wife still worked, I could pursue a self owned buisness I am interested in, and to me, I would be set. If I failed, then yes, I would have to go back to work. But I think that would set an average family. The interest on 600grand even is fairly decent.

I know this is may not be the case, but if you were to win by going through the drive thru, I hope you weren't the guy right behind this guy in line! That would suck, being short changed by one car and seeing all the festivities right in front of you!

FWIW, the prize is paid out in $50k chunks over the next 20 years, so the winner will likely be working, eating at Taco Smell, AND experiencing the runs for the forseeable future.

That's enough for a new M3 every three years ... soon he won't be able to afford a 1982 315!

$1M isn't going to make anyone rich. It would, however, be a fantastic starting point for a wise investor. And I'm not talking stock market. Hell, with $600,000 in cash, you could go bust on a few ventures before finding success.

Unfortunately, he's getting it spread over the next 20 years. Maybe he could just go into semi-retirement for that period.
