I'm selling my '02 330Ci on autotrader and was contacted via email about the selling price, condition, and etc....Then I received this email today.....It really sounds like a variation of a scam that I heard about years ago.....What do you think????

Hi XXXX,

My name is XXXX,based in london. My company specialized in buying and shipping of items to our diffferent customers in europe. Thanks for your mail and price of $29,250.00 well accepted, however i want to confirm from my client how the payment would be,the amount in the check that is suppose to be given to you is likely to be more than what should be paid to you.The company that is owning my customer wants to make out check with the whole amount,Inorderwards, the refund will take care of the shippment cost and agent fees.
I would need a honest person regards to this very purchase b/c my Customer can not fund earlier inspection so we count on the information you provided. We can only proceed with this transaction if you can assure me that information you provided about your car are correct.

Please get back to me the moment you recieve this mail for more clearifications.
Thanks.
xxxx

When I had my E30 convertible on Autotrader.com I got e-mails like that all the time. Always Yahoo e-mail addresses.

Definately a scam.

He'll send you a cashier's check for more than the money, and ask you to wire the remainder to him via Western Union.

The check may look like it has cleared initially, but eventually the bank comes back to you and gives you the bad news. You're out by the difference (i.e. the amount you wired).

He'll say he'll make arrangements for someone to pick up the car but that won't happen.

Loads of interesting sites on this scam if you search.

Thanks everyone......I thought it sounded like the Nigerian scam.

Bustedupcowgirl.com is hillarious.....I'm thinking about reversing the scam on him.

Very similar to the e-mail I got when I advertised my 318ti on RF. Please note the very british sounding address in Turkey. Obviously that was a dead give away that it was a scam.

Sir/Madam.
I am Troy Hearn,Internet manager for Troy procurements,7-8 Cavendish Row Upper croydon rd, Victoria Garden,Turkey. We specialise in purchase of Autos and electrical electronics for customers here in Europe, and we get paid in commission, after payment has been confirmed by the seller to the buyer.I write you on behalf of our client to contact you and arrange for the buying and shippment of your vehicle which our client saw on the internet,we would like to know the conditions of the said vehicle and probably arrange for payment to get to you and shippment.

My customer interested in purchasing your vehicle mentioned above for the sum of $10,750,and we will arrange for the pick up of the vehicle once payment is confirmed cleared by you. Please acknowledge the offer and we will inform the buyer of your confirmation of acceptance to sell and have the funds remitted to you as soon as possible ,and i'll like this transaction to be kept in utmost trust.I hope you can understand. Our office is located in Turkey,as stated above.
Thanks,
Troy.

I got one while selling my 325Ci. It was pretty easy to get rid of him by basically telling him no problem but he would have to wait until all funds had fully cleared before the car or any additional money was disbursed. Never heard back...
