Anyone have an answer to what might go into the space under the hood in the upper left-hand side of the engine compartment?
The salesman (full of other unlikely stories) said that there is a refrigerator/cooler that is available in Europe that can be hard-wired into that area. He also said that it is an open area for equal weight distribution.

I believe 323/328s have a part of the DSC (ASC?) system in there, and I believe its also said that the battery is there on 4cyl models (not in NA)

That space is for European 4 liter engines, 1.9 and 1.6 liter engines that have less weight up front, so BMW puts the batteries up there. Also in older models (323/328) that's where the ABS brain is.

Hey - I DID search the archives and come up with nothing - you try "space in engine compartment" and see what you come up with.

Also, I was wondering (based on the European First-Aid kit) if there was an OEM item that fit in that space.

These cars all have something in common: No EBD (or whatever the electronic braking differential is called). I suspect that the EBD cars have an integrated controller somewhere closer to the brake booster.

That compartment, if empty, is used for my "Emergency Cleaning Supplies" if I ever get bird-bombed, so as to avoid any 'etching' into the paint.

It would be cool if there was a storage container that would fit in that space so that some items could be stored in there without rolling and rattling around.

Windshield washer fluid jug storage comes to mind, but I've never actually used it for that.

Small bucket, think its an old dish washer detergent bucket, with lid (gets dusty under that hood! )

My guess is when a right hand drive car is built, it will handle the brake fluid reservoir etc.

Get it? Just swap from left to right.
