After doing some metric conversions :yikes: I just realized that I got 43.7 mpg on my last tank of fuel. Not bad because it also includes some city driving as well. And hey, the price of diesel has dropped all the way down to $2.15 a gallon! :tsk:

So, that's like 5 cents a mile, right?

I get around 21mpg, paying $1.31 for 93 octane up here, that works out to a little over 6 cents a mile.

I guess it is pretty similar between the two.. Does having a diesel engine have other benefits over an unleaded gas one? I mean, other than the ability to drive your car with the engine fully submerged (heh)

93 octane? How come we only get 91 in California? And for $1.31, that's a steal! I'm paying $1.57 for 91 out here...
California went from 92 to 91 ocatane late last year. I forget exactly why, but all premium gasoline refined to be sold in the state by any refinery is now rated at 91 AKI R+M/2.

If you really want to run higher octane gas, find a 76 with 100, or buy Sunoco racing gas by the barrel and brew your own. ;)

Well, I wanted to use 91, because that's what my car's manual says, but I can only really find 93 out here.

I guess it's ok (or nobody would drive a bimmer out here, right?)

Around here we get 87, 89 or 93 so I too go with the 93. Right now its ~1.25

I am using BP 93 octane at $1.18. Cheaper brands available at around 1.12

Well, in Colorado we only get 85, 87, 90 (or 91) at $1.15, $1.29, & $1.39, respectively. There was a big news story about why Colorado has 85 octane for regular...all the gas companies blame it on the altitude, but car mfgs say it's hogwash. In any case, we have some of the highest costs per octane point....

Aside from better fuel economy and cheaper fuel than a gasoline engine, not many other benefits.

The fact that it is turbocharged does allow for some seat of the pants fun - and there is a lot of torque at about 1700 rpm. There is also a lot of room for improved engine management software, i.e., a chip.
