Lately I've noticed a squeak coming from my right rear wheel area when I enter or exit the car. It's not that loud and I only notice it when entering and exiting, but it's annoying. I plan on bringing it to my dealers attention when I schedule my first free oil service, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Could it be the shock? Would some grease make it stop? Anyone? Thanks.

Hold the freakin phone.

I thought this was an issue for me only! Thank you for posting about it. I have the exact same problem and in fact my car is in for its first service (which I waited for to get this fixed) and they're checking that out now. I will know tomorrow what's up so I'll let you know here.

It's a squeak on the upstroke of the suspension right? You can duplicate it by pushing down on the bottom rear door sill and letting the car spring back up. I thought it was either a shock or a sway bar bushing. We'll see!

Exactly Webguy!!! Please post what your dealer finds out. Mine doesn't seem to do it everytime so my dealer may give me the "we couldn't duplicate" response. I'll try and test it at lunch with the parking brake off to see if that eliminates it. Thanks.

Same here. I thought it was an issue with my car only. I drive a 2000 328i and I get that squeak sound when I get out of my car. Please do let us know what is the outcome.

Will do folks. They said they ordered some parts, we'll see what they are. =)

BTW, I've noticed that the squeak has gone away since the weather got down past freezing. 45+ F is where I hear it the most (everytime I get in/out of the car).

Add my car to the list!

Does the same thing, and I have to believe it's not just when getting in and out. It is probably happening while the car is driving you just don't hear it

I have heard a high pitched whine sound. Could this be part of it too?

All -

My car was just in for an oil change, and I reported the 2 exact "problems" to have checked out.

The dealer told me the squeak from the emergency brake is well known, and is "normal".

The other noise - a whistle or flute like noise you sometimes hear for the first 10-15 secs or so is due to the "air pump". I have no idea what uses an air pump under the hood...but again, they said that this is well known and "normal". There again, you know dealerships...

I think this is different from the whining sound (which is the fuel pump) but I know what you mean. That's kind of a squeal sound right? Sounds like a belt slipping ever so slightly, but it's not. I think it has something to do with the intake system as it gets louder if you rev the engine. Are our intake systems single or dual runners? Is there a butterfly valve or anything like that in there?

I just got my car back from the dealer and here is what they told me about that sqeak. I had a slight problem with my handbrake where it was not gripping well, especially on hills. The told me that the squeak was coming from the parking brake and that it should be gone after they adjust the handbrake to be tighter. Well, IT DID NOT WORK. So any more suggestions?

I tested my squeak out and it is definately related to the parking brake. It will only squeak when the parking brake is engaged. I plan on notifying my dealer when I bring it in for oil service, but that will be another 3K miles. I'll post my dealers action (in-action) at that time.

thats strange because my car still squeaks even though adjustments were made to the parking brake (did you know that this is not covered under warranty?)
