Hey guys. Need some help. Just picked up a 2000 540i with our 740 engine. It has vanos and guides done just 1500 miles ago. Yet I still have start up clatter. Any one have a similar scenario?
Replacing the timing chain tensioner with the newer designed one (the one with the longer spring) has helped reduce (but not totally eliminate) that start up rattle. Plus, it's a cheap investment in pro-longing the chain guides wear (less chain slap against the guides).
