I am intrested in buying a 2004 X3 used and the guy selling it sent me a picture of the dash and it had a Check engine light and EML light.. What do these lights mean? Are they normal to come on just for start up?

Should I be concerned?

That set of lights looks normal and they remain lit until the engine has been started (The engine is off; tach = 0). All lights should extinguish once the engine is started, except the seat belt (duh).

ask him to send a pick with the engine running to make sure there are no lights on
