Hello,

My car doesn't start upon pressing the Start button, if I put the key in and wait a minute before pressing the start button it starts up. Error code thrown in ISTAD is 00A0B4 CAS:Engine start, starter operation.

Battery was replaced 6 months ago and checked the voltage, is there a way to tell if the starter is bad or just the solenoid.

Thanks

Well, do you have power at the starter when it's asked to start?

Hear a click?

[here] - does the quick fix work?

No click can be heard upon pushing the start button and the noise is like as if the car is struggling to start and few seconds later it just dies (no noise at all, pushing the button again does nothing). I take out the key and put it in again (without pushing start), wait for a minute, then attempt to start, car starts up fine. Problem repeats more often when the car is left overnight in cold outside.

Not sure if the one minute wait is letting the solenoid/starter energize enough to start the car.

That was the last straw with my old 335i.

In the good old days when men were men and Welsh sheep were very nervous...my Mini 1000 put me thru this crap. From memory there was a dog that used to stick on the flywheel. A tap with a hammer or rocking the car whilst in gear would usually shift it. Also changed the solenoid...but one could easily reach it in a mini to check if power was going to the starter after it clicked. Dodgy earthing was also a factor at one time. The starter motor was dead easy to change too.

Falling that...

Yes sir. Dealer said the starter wasnt engaging. Had it towed to a friends house & I followed the diy starter thread. The dealer TRIEDD a $1200 repair bill. LOL. Car starts right up now. Had dealer check charging & battery they said everythings fine. I will still like to kno how I can find out the age of my battery tho ...
Same here, dealer said battery is good and starter needs to be replaced, $1600 quote for it.
Planning to have it replaced at Indy. Did you get a bosch starter ?

Car still starting just fine. Yes its Bosch its original BMW. I kno a lot of ppl recommend brand new but I bought mine used from a BMW/Mercedes German pull yard. It was like $50 it came from a 2010 X5 and the fit was perfect. They have shelves & shelves of starters they pull from cars that are salvaged. In my opinion the Bosch is the best way to go if you can afford the new one get it. I dont trust off brands from online. Always do your due diligence when it comes to things like this. Out of warranty we have to allocate where our money goes on these cars wisely
