Stone Chips, sigh

... washed the car yesterday. 2 stone chips, either side of lower air damn. Almost bookends, either side above SP lower lip. Oh well, six weeks of unspoiled paintwork. Off to the dealer for some touchup paint .... and the detailing forum for some reading. :thumb:

How about considering that clear plastic film protector.. Xpel? I will definitely do that on my next car... BMW paint sucks!
Noticed that on my car too, when waxing this weekend. Don't remember having this many chips on the Honda's I used to own. Only 6 months old, but the leading edge of the hood is already somewhat battered.

IMHO, that stuff will help in the short run, though long term I think that stuff won't help. I hear if a corner gets loose or a hole gets puched in it, that road grime works its way in behind, and then your back to square one. Scratch city. Besides, IMHO, the paint needs to breathe. I'd also worry about clouding issues, mold, and rusting with that stuff. I'd rather keep a good amount of wax on the front end, touchup the chips as required, and have the front end resprayed every 3-5 years.

The ultimate solution is not to drive the car. Which of course, is no solution, :D

I think that's a pretty common old-wives tale. Don't know of any reasons why paint would need fresh air. Once it's dry, you want to protect it from the elements, not invite them in.

How dare you!!!! :D

Silver is probably the best color for hiding stone chips. It's such a great color other than the fact that everone has it!

My last car was a black 1996 Honda Accord coupe. It definitely had chips. The BMW paint seems as good or better the Honda. Time will tell.

What is bad about the SP is that it there ain't no place for the stones to go. It's a 2 foot wall of front end. :yikes: Knew/expected this when I bought the car. Would get it again despite this hassle.

Can't keep'em new forever.
