I have a dilemma I'm dealing with at the moment trying to decide whether I should go with the e36 with low miles that looks a little rough or the one with high miles that looks a lot cleaner. What kind of reliability have you guys had with over 200k on your rides?

Mileage isn't too much of a factor with these cars. I think most others will agree, it's usually better to go with the higher mileage car that has been well maintained versus a lower mileage example which has been neglected.

+1 to that. A mechanically well maintained car is always a better bet than one with no record of maintenance, regardless of looks. It's relatively easy to make the exterior look good, but you can't fake the condition of the internals.

Get the higher mileage car that's been actively driven and maintained. Sitting doesn't do anything good to a car, and you'll end up dealing with seals and gaskets that have dried up from a lack of use/lubrication and will end up needing to be replaced.
