2 days ago i bought my X6 into service because there was a lot of noise coming in through the doors. Since i was in there, i asked them to check the trunk lid liner to see if it was tightly screwed in. My new sub woofers were shaking it. Today i get a call from my Service consultant, saying that the techs that were checking the liner on my trunk also checked where the wires from my sub woofer went. They saw it was installed through the stock wires of my car, and they told me that if any of my electronics, i.e Idrive, radio etc were to malfunction, warranty would no longer cover it. I said to them they must prove that my sub woofers were the cause of the malfunction before they void any warranty, and the consultant said "yes, they would have to". When i got into pick up my car, and they gave me the report of what they did on my car, at the bottom it noted that the warranty for electronics were voided because of my after market sound system. My service consultant told me it was just a note, and the warranty has not actually been voided because they have not made claim through BMW yet. My problem is, non of the wires or cables went through the liner i told them to look at. Second i told them to check the liner and not my sound system or sub woofer. Do they have the right to look at something i clearly didn't tell them to look at? and has any one ever had problem with their electronics malfunction due to a aftermarket sub install?
Thanks!

Guy buys car; guy puts stupid parts on $80k car; car breaks; guy brings car to dealer to fix it; guy complains they found problem; guy refuses to believe his "system" had anything to do with it....... ok :)

I think you mistaken what i said... What i brought the car in to service had nothing to do with my sound system, but when they were servicing my car, they came across my sub woofer. They than did a little snooping around and found where my wires went... My question was, did they have the right to look through my stuff when i did not ask them to... Please read the message next time.

They can look at things and make notes but they can only refuse coverage when your mod is the source of the issue.

Thanks for your input into this matter Jim! I figured that would happen someday if i went in with some sort of electronic malfunction. But this time my service had nothing to do with my wiring, electronics, or sound system etc. I feel what they did was not justified
