Just picked up my 2002 Z3 3.0. I ordered it with the sport package which required getting the brushed aluminum trim with it. I traded in a 2000 with wood trim and liked the look. When it got to the dealer, I had them switch out the brushed aluminum for the wood trim. I have the brand new brushed aluminum trim in perfect condition if any one is interested. Chrome shifter also available.

You can paint your old console silver, try a search on bimmerforums, a few people have done it there.

Heat, twist and pry. You will probably destroy the stock one getting the old one out. It is glued on.
