OK, a little background first....... I've had custom wheels on my cars for years and always been very anal/careful of anything happening to them. About 3 weeks ago I take delivery of my new M3 Cab, it's the greatest car I've ever owned and I vow to always keep it in pristine condition. Flash forward to saturday morning, I'm at the gym, parked in a spot by the curb so my car is protected.....as I pull out I scrape my wheel on the cement, putting a gouge in the rim where it meets the tire!!!!!! AUGGGGGGHHHHHH:mad: I can't believe how stupid I was, I'm still kicking myself...... Today I look for a quality wheel shop to repair it for me.......

Sorry to hear about that (I scraped up a rim pretty bad during ED in Germany--fortunately they fixed it for me at the VPC before I saw it again).

After you swing by the wheel shop, you may want to pick up a set of curb feelers. Just kidding.

Good luck,

hts

Somehow, I think it's a right of passage in these cars. In the first week I had my car I scraped a curb with the drivers front wheel. Haven't since now that I learned the hard way. Most other cars the tire gives you some protection, not these.
 I know the feeling...you constantly worry about others damaging your car but then when it comes down to it, it's you that actually does the most harm..! Good luck finding a repair shop...

Got any pix of your car..?

Ain't it the truth! I'm gonna take a pic this weekend to post with my sig....
Sorry to hear about your wheel...

I usually perfer curb spots too. This way, at least one side of the car is protected... ;)

However, I usually back up into the spot. I find it easier to forget about the curb when you're taking off (late for something, etc) than when you're parking... ;)

Anyway, just thought I'd run this one by you. It's worked for me... :thumb:

The vast majority of the time when I return to the curb spot I parked in the idiot next to me parked either way to close to the painted line or actually partially in my space. Damn, I hate that. It also happens when I don’t pull all the way in, some dumb ass will actually pull too far forward of his line and will actually be touching my car with his plate. I don’t even want to get started on parallel parking in the U.S. It’s not that hard what’s wrong with people. I didn’t go through drivers training and I can get my car in the space and lined up. Just look at all the morons that are crooked and over the lines next time, it’s re-damn-diculous.

Oh well, maybe you can use this as an excuse to buy some twenty’s……..nah, nah, dem are ten’s.

Seems like lots of us have done this. I did it two weeks after buying the car. Parallel parking (I only do this about twice a year)

:(
Confession booth? Okay, Father...Saturday I pulled into a parking spot where the curb is about 2" higher than a normal curb, luckily I was going extremely slow pulling in, but felt a front air dam "bump". Inspecting it at home, I put a nice center scratch on the underside of the front air dam. (sigh) At least its not noticable.

Heh. I've got you beat. Two hours after taking delivery of my 2002 330ci, I let my brother drive it. He forgot to take the 5 inch Benchmade Tanto folding knife out of his back pocket and punched a nice big hole in the driver's seat.....on the first night, no less. :dunno:

Don't be too hard on yourself - most of us have done something like that before. Try to look on the positive side, and treat it as a learning experience for the next time you park close to a curb. Besides, it's a right of passage for your new M3 - a friend of mine has an M3 cab, and his philosophy is that once he gets the inevitable first ding, scratch, or whatever, then he can stop being so totaly anal about his car, and enjoy it more!

Yeap, me too

I did that on the stock 17's- about made me ill. I got past it after awhile and only really saw it when I washed and waxed the wheels.

THEN about a month later, I did the EXACT same thing at the EXACT same bank teller driveaway...

Weird thing? I scraped it in the EXACT same place, but added about two inches to the rash. I felt fortunate.

With the new 19" Hartges, I now avoid, at all costs, that teller machine.
