I have a 96 318i with a tapping behind the glove box. It starts anytime you turn the key to the "on" position. Even if you go to the "on" position and turn it back off, it still taps for about 45 seconds. Ive tried turning different things on and off while itis tapping, but no change. Im thinking its a relay of some kind. Thanks in advance. Mead

Is it just a real muffled clicking noise? If so I believe that's just the climate control fan adjusting after you turn it off.

Would it tap when you turn it on and off? It even does it when you turn the car off and get out. it taps for about 30 seconds and quits.

Yeah, that actually what I was referring to. The HVAC system will continue to make strange noises for about 30 secs or so after you shut off the car. Not always, but often.

Well theres one less thing I have to wounder about. Half the time I turn my car off it sounds like a party behind the dash
