I thought the E39 section of trim types need some cleaning up to get rid of misconceptions and add in a few new pictures of trim that has yet been found outside of Realoem!

I've been working on refurbishing many E39 trim sets and along with that I have come across many interesting ones.

Some of the old threads have had mislabeled & double labeled sets, so I wanted let out all of what I've found. :)

Along with the thread I wanted to include Common name (if any), English name, and German name. Along with a link to RealOEM and short description.

If you spot any inconsistencies please let me know... I put a bit more emphasis on the more rare sets.

Credit to all those who have posted pictures from now to the past and Imola530isport for many pictures

When I look up my VIN, it just says "fine wood trim" which tells me jack.
this post tells me the right color :)
Vavona is what I have- at least the best I can tell :)
I love the brushed aluminum and the black leather.
I'm gonna have to hit salvage yards looking for new trim ;)

Ooooooh. Very nice.
An instant classic.

As self-nominated head librarian, I'll have to add it to the bestlinks.
I'm not sure of the correct keyword-rich sentence so folks can find it, but, for starters, how does this sound?

Is there nothing available in exotic styles like Ipe' from Brazil??

I'm looking for something in a dark reddish color - maybe even a simple wrap?

I've googled the all over the place but still haven't found the right stuff.

Hi,

I've mentioned it on other forum threads which are the same as this one here.

There's too many misconceptions with 'High Gloss Black' and 'Piano Black' as well. However, I think it'll be very difficult to separate the big differences now!

BMW High Gloss Black is what I have in my car, an oversight I think considering my car was Ex Police ! They did drill 3 small holes on the centre console piece in mine too - rendering potential re-sale values much lower! The trim as mentioned above has a distinct Metallic flake within the paint used.

Piano black is a non metallic or 'flat' black with many many layers of lacquer that are polished in between each application layer. The next effect is a very glossy lacquer but the 'black' being that, just ''black'.

Boostmaster - You can get almost any colour you want from any reputable vinyl signwriting specialist. The catalogues nowadays are so thick with literally thousands of colours and specialist vinyl with all sorts of effects. It'd be very easy to choose a 'dark reddish' colour ! Look for vinyl signwriters in your town, state or nationwide who'll easily be able to supply you. An alternative is to speak to a specialist leather re-trimmer who has the ability to 'thin' leather hides so that it can be used for intricate work such as these trims - not many leather retrimmer can do this however.

Cheers, Dennis!

Thanks to all the responses... Actually, I was looking for a simulated wood trim. The e39 I recently purchased had some "custom" work (I use that term loosely) and the PO decided to paint all the trim in a gloss black which subsequently cracked...
I think that the panels are ok and I can scuff and prep them for something else. I was looking at wraps but what I thought would really pop in my black on black was a reddish colored wood finish like the attached pic. I have not found any wrap that comes close. (otherwise I like the brushed finish in the pics above...)

Hi Bmwe39528i,

I do believe that picture is an M5 with the trims wrapped in 'thinned' leather - so most likely an OEM Individual option. You could get a similar kind of finish using some of the latest Vinyls though. My interior is all black and on my list of potential tweaks is the trim pieces in a similar red colour.

Cheers, Dennis!
