And yes...there at the counter is a brochure screaming OBD retrofit for BMW E46 3 series. Before anyone gets too excited, I am in Singapore right now and this was a morning visit to the local BMW dealer.

In my hands is a copy of the latest 2002 BMW Euro Accessories catalog. And the OBD is featured as an accessory. Wait....let me flip through for more stuff..and ah ha! They have an accessory known as the Electric Rodent Protection system! :dunno: Others include bi-xenon retrofit, new nav system that sits in the ashtray (below the DSC button), aluminium techno dots or brushed aluminum interior trim or gloss painted finish according to car colour or leather etc...gosh..too much to list... :( One last one: Titanium line exterior trim! woohoo!:thumb:

Now back to OBD retrofit. I have THE part number for the retrofit. Expect US$200 or less for the kit. However, I need to find out more about programming/coding OBD onto non-OBD BMWs. So that this won't be a problem for US dealers to work on. Wait for more news... ;)

Btw, first aid kit ala euro style costs only ahem...US$30! :D

"Electric Rodent Protection
The active rodent protection systems works along the lines of an electric fence. This has been recognized as the most effective method of preventing rodent damage."

you forgot the bicolor leather interior, the full wood interior(including nav), full chrome, etc etc :thumb:
vince why not grab a few of them for distribution

or maybe you can find someone to scan the pages. i'm sure we'd all be interested in the catalog. hmm any bootleg ekt discs for sale over there?
Is rodent damage an actual problem? Exactly what sort of damage are these rodents doing? Gnawing tires or something? Any photos out there of a rodent-damaged BMW?
Or is this on par with a Deluxe Sasquatch Avoidance Package?
what would the retrofit for the on board computer be anyways? more info? more accurate info?!?!

that gps system looks weird. does it work the same or better than the OEM?

My oem is soo slow. the map takes forever to generate. the map positionins randomly changes...it sucks. im starting to wish i didnt get nav... sigh..
:lmao:
I WANT that Nav system!!!!

Now see, in Seattle, we could use that! Big bastards are everywhere....and you think it's bad when a seagull craps on your car....YA! you get the point... :D :lmao:
Cool Vince. Please post the part numbers when you get a chance-- i'm going to Germany in a few weeks and want to pick this up when I'm there. Thanks.
In all seriousness, can someone find out how much that Nav system costs and what it would take to install it? (And, of course, whether or not maps can be had for the US)
BTW, that nav system has been available for over a year in Europe-- I remember seeing it in the 2000 German accessories catalog. If you like that nav due to its positioning, there are other options as well- I believe AC shnitzer makes a lower console monitor that can be hooked to any aftermarket Nav system. Philips or Alpine (can't remember) also had a monitor and controller that would fit in that space. I think BMW should put the OEM nav there-- seems like a better place-- and it doesn't screw up the placement of the more frequently used climate and radio controls. The only tradeoff is thatyou lose 2 nearly worthless storage compartments. I think the price of that thing was approximately $3000 US dollars in the 2000 catalog - but I"m sure Vince will enlighten us w/ the latest prices...
The only downer is that I'd lose the cigarette lighter, which I use to power far too many electronics. :p
There Is An Option

There is an OEM accessory that hooks up to the socket for the glove compartment flash light. This basically gives you another cigarette lighter adapter. I got it recently because I was thinking of hooking up a couple of devices at the same time. Haven't actually used it yet.

Oh, and that Nav system does look cool. If I didn't already put my VDO gauges in, I would've considered it.

Yeah, my parts dept. catalog also lists this; I have no idea what it is for!

If it would keep dogs from pissing on my wheels/tires when I am parked on a street, it might be a good option to add!
