Jon, actually, I propose that we actually should have a separate X5 and X3 forum.
Or rename the X-series forum as the SAV forum and have two separate X5 and X3 sub-forum. We can still post OT stuff in the OT lounge.
Either way, the X5ers should have their separate forums. Here are the reasons:
If you look how you separate the forums, you are separating based purely on series letters/numbers which may make sense, but in some cases the vehicles are quite different.
Logically, the "numbered-series" 3-series and 5-series can have their own forum. The 3-series could be a 2-door, 4-door, wagon and the 5-series could be sedan or wagon, etc., but they are the same car based on the their respective platform.
I understand that there may be a small amount of 6/7/8 series owners so why not lump them together. They are the BMW's high-end luxury car and there is probably not enough posters. However, if you look at the current X3/X5 members, there is probably enough to support a separate forum.
The Z-series make sense since the Z3s share the same plateform (Z3 roadster/coupe) and currently only have 2 generations of the same type of car. (Z3/Z4 which both are roadsters).
What I don't understand is the lumping of the X5 and X3s. They DON'T share the same plateform! They are as different as a 3-series sedan & a 5-series sedan. Yes both a 330i and 530i are both sedans, but you don't lump them together because they both "sports sedan". They are separate because they are different platform "sports sedan".
If you linking both the X3ers and X5ers in one forum because they are both BMW's AWD SAVs, it doesn't make sense. There are plenty of differences in platform between the X3s and X5s and enough members of each to have their own separate forums (no offense to the X3ers) And unlike the Z-series, the Z3 and Z4 are just different generations of roadsters.
I don't see the logic of a "X-series" forum. My thought is that BMW has a series of sports sedans/coupes and they are distinct 1/3/5/6/7/8 and BMW has a set of roadsters Z-series, but the just think of the X as another line of BMWs (i.e. current they have a 3-series version and a 5-series version of the SAV line just like they have a 3-series & 5-series of the sports sedan line).
If you like to keep the common theme and sub-forums, you could also just rename the X-series as SAV forum and have two sub-forum X5 and X3 which would also make more sense or keep it simple and have a X3 and X5 forum just like you do with the 3 and 5-series forum.
Thanks for listening.
