The X-series is the REFUGEE LOUNGE!! ;)

Jon, actually, I propose that we actually should have a separate X5 and X3 forum.

Or rename the X-series forum as the SAV forum and have two separate X5 and X3 sub-forum. We can still post OT stuff in the OT lounge.

Either way, the X5ers should have their separate forums. Here are the reasons:

If you look how you separate the forums, you are separating based purely on series letters/numbers which may make sense, but in some cases the vehicles are quite different.

Logically, the "numbered-series" 3-series and 5-series can have their own forum. The 3-series could be a 2-door, 4-door, wagon and the 5-series could be sedan or wagon, etc., but they are the same car based on the their respective platform.

I understand that there may be a small amount of 6/7/8 series owners so why not lump them together. They are the BMW's high-end luxury car and there is probably not enough posters. However, if you look at the current X3/X5 members, there is probably enough to support a separate forum.

The Z-series make sense since the Z3s share the same plateform (Z3 roadster/coupe) and currently only have 2 generations of the same type of car. (Z3/Z4 which both are roadsters).

What I don't understand is the lumping of the X5 and X3s. They DON'T share the same plateform! They are as different as a 3-series sedan & a 5-series sedan. Yes both a 330i and 530i are both sedans, but you don't lump them together because they both "sports sedan". They are separate because they are different platform "sports sedan".

If you linking both the X3ers and X5ers in one forum because they are both BMW's AWD SAVs, it doesn't make sense. There are plenty of differences in platform between the X3s and X5s and enough members of each to have their own separate forums (no offense to the X3ers) And unlike the Z-series, the Z3 and Z4 are just different generations of roadsters.

I don't see the logic of a "X-series" forum. My thought is that BMW has a series of sports sedans/coupes and they are distinct 1/3/5/6/7/8 and BMW has a set of roadsters Z-series, but the just think of the X as another line of BMWs (i.e. current they have a 3-series version and a 5-series version of the SAV line just like they have a 3-series & 5-series of the sports sedan line).

If you like to keep the common theme and sub-forums, you could also just rename the X-series as SAV forum and have two sub-forum X5 and X3 which would also make more sense or keep it simple and have a X3 and X5 forum just like you do with the 3 and 5-series forum.

Thanks for listening.

Well, technically the 3-series E30, E36, E46, E90 are different generations of the same model line (they are all 3-series).

Both the X3 and X5 are not different generations of the same model line, instead they are two distinct model lines of BMW's SAV models. Just like there is a 3-series and 5-series which are different model lines.

I know Jon would like to have a community feeling and instead of wiping out the X-series (which I believe is the wrong way of categorizing them) he could keep his "SAV community forum spirit and add the X5 sub-forum (though it is not as anologous as the 3-series and their sub-forums of different generations of the same series)

Or he could keep it simple and separate the X3 and X5 since they are different model lines like the 3 & 5-series.

If you're going to have separate forums for the various 3-series, separating the X5 and the X3 makes sense. :dunno:
Whoops, I just edited my reply. OK, either way it would make more sense right?

I agree you with you as well that the X-series could be really renamed SAV and they should have a separate X3 and X5 sub-forum.

Sorry, didn't word it well.

I think X3 and X5 should definitely have parallel treatment of some sort.

I'd lean toward having them be children of an "SAV" or "X-series" forum since they seem to have more in common with each other, than the X5 has with the 5-series, and the X3 has with the 3-series.
:stupid:

this is stupid... we should just have one big bmw forum... 2er, 3er's, 4ers,5ers,6ers,7ers,8ers.. they all look the same.. they all BMW's.. why even have different forums?? Combine them all and have 1 big group hug..
Historically, the forum breakdown along Series and model designation lines has been revisted every so often based on membership comment, forum post counts, etc...trying to strike the best balance possible betwen sufficent granularity to attract "specialists" without having an extra long list of forums that appear dead because they only attract 3 posts a month.

In the X series case, if enough of the X5 guys stay, I'd think that there would be enough traffic to make an X5 specific forum viable. X3 traffic seemed to pick up when you guys came over too (conincidence, you had tag alongs??? :dunno: ). I'd like to see separate X3 and X5 subforums given a shot.

YEAH, let's make this one big RF Refugee FORUM!! :D

I think it should really be considered. Either way, just rename the X-series to SAV because it doesn't make sense.

... You see Jon...
I second the idea of having X-Series break into two subforums, X5 and X3 and have the main thing be somewhat of our own version of the OT.

X-Series drivers are a different breed.
didn't we just go through the whole process of merging into having only one OT?

you know, that's the kind of statement a big internet meanie like me would love to wreck havoc with, but I'm gonna place nice and let that one slide  :p

Remember I created the Refugee Lounge 2.0 for a reason. A friedly place for Refugees to talk to each other. I just posted the Refugee Lounge 2.0 Story . I think it is a good read. Please let me know what you think of it.
