Thinking about buying 2014 328i xdrive...pros and cons?

Hey guys! new to the forum here. I am currently shopping around and looking to purchase a CPO 2014 328i xdrive with navigation. I am new to BMW and would like to get an insight of what I would be expecting. Any pros and cons for this current sedan body style? any common issues or problems you've had? has anyone had issues with the runflats? cost to own and has anyone else purchased a certified pre-owned 328? Any comments or insight would really help, thank you!

Neither are available in USA/CA.

There are many, many threads on the pros and cons of the F30 versus previous E90. Please use the Search function and read them, as your questions are of such a generic nature that they will be answered there.

1) 2L turbo N20/N26 is far more engine than previous NA I6 N52.
2) RFT's are real on F3x, due to taller tires than E9x tires
3) Steering
4) "BMW's are costly to buy, costly to own, and costly to maintain" (quote from Mike Miller, Roundel)
Besides it being Xdrive and a 4 year old car with an overpriced cpo warranty, no cons I suppose
I can't speak to any specific issues (I haven't read of any major trouble areas with this generation). Just make sure you obtain a pre-purchase inspection (PPI) from a qualified, independent BMW shop. You can speak to them about any issues they've encountered. Do not assume anything and, more importantly, do not trust anything the salesperson / seller says / promises about the car. Be aware the CPO warranty is not as comprehensive as the original warranty. This is not to say it's bad but something to be aware of.

If all pans out I say go for it! You'll love it.
This is something I did not do but I recommend you do:

1. Find out all available packages - and then decide if the car has everything you want.
2. Use the Vin decoder to determine what is exactly in each car that you are looking at.
3. Xdrive cars and RWDs drive differently. Test drive at least one of each to figure out what you like.
4. If you want better audio quality, compare a car with HK and without. Audio quality is subjective and only you can decide for yourself.

Good luck with your purchase.

As for run flats, some people love em and some don't. I think it's good if I ever have a flat, but I've only had two slow punctures in the last 5 years/90k miles across cars so they drove well enough to get to a tire shop (non-RFTs mind you)

As for repair costs, YMWV. For every car with a replaced tranny, there's another that has has 60k problem free miles. Since you have CPO warranty + remainder of the basic warranty, rest easy for now.

1. Do your own homework, especially on the specific car you are interested in.
2. the microcosm of people posting complaints about a car is far louder than all those who do not voice complaints. Past performance is not indicative of future performance, especially as it relates to someone's car compared to the one you are interested in buying.
3. Even with CPO, have them print out repair history so you can see what has and has not been fixed (at least by the dealer).
4. Maintaining cars is a cost. You can get an average of when things "might" fail or will need to be serviced to make a better potential cost of ownership projection.
5. RFT: some people love them, others don't. It's a personal preference with pros and cons.
6. Understand what CPO warranty does and does not cover.
Yeah I bought a CPO 2014 328i Xdrive last month; 24,000 miles, immaculate condition, cold weather package, premium package, $26K.

The financing is awesome, 0.9% for 72 months. It's almost like free money.

The run-flats are OK (mine came with Pirelli P7 all seasons), much better riding than the awful run-flats which came with the previous generation E90. I hear that the new "Bridgestone Driveguard" run-flats are even better.

The one thing I really dislike are the halogen headlights. Aiming them a little higher helps, but they're still pretty dim.

Try to buy the youngest CPO car you can find, with the lowest amount of miles, to maximize the amount of "no cost scheduled maintenance" you have left. They come with 4 years/50,000 miles free maintenance. This includes everything except tires.

Good luck.

4/50,000 from the original in service date.

maintenance is first owner only as of MY 2015-- no longer transferrable

CPOs still come with maintenance running from the original in-service date.

Yes, thanks for the clarification!
This site says that for BMWs sold from July 1, 2015 onwards, the free maintenance program is no longer transferable?

Perhaps this only applies to non-CPO vehicles?

I couldn't find details on the bmwusa.com site

Correct--its not transferrable from one owner to another, but it's still part of the CPO program.
