Oh yeah, it's been picking up around here too!

It’s just the pine trees. The pollen from the southern pine trees is too big to be an allergic problem for most people, but it does coat EVERYTHING and about three weeks later we have to hose down everything outside (porch, deck, chairs, grills, cars). Pine trees in the SE are a crop and they are also the most prevalent naturally occurring tree, they spew out a LOT of pollen every spring and this is the earliest I can remember. My dogwood and azalea’s are popping, peach trees already bloomed and done with, elm about halfway there.

I’m halfway between Greenville and Columbia, SC and I don’t EVER remember the spring coming so early. Luckily I don’t have any allergen’s so I just watch while other folks suffer and spend hours in April cleaning my dang cars and outdoor stuff when it’s over.

Got a significant rock chip on the windshield while out of town. Nothing major, but obviously not repairable. Still not dealing with insurance because they suck and annoyingly said my deductible could still likely be applied for any glass replacement claims. Screw them.

So I hit up Realoem for parts and ordered a new windshield with seal, and outer cowl trim pieces. The main cowl trim piece itself is still in good shape, so no need to replace it. For the windshield, E39 sedan comfort glass is NLA. But the tourings is. Guys on the M5 group had it installed with no issues. So I got that for my car instead of regular glass. Was originally going to get regular glass, then have 3M UV clear applied to the inside. But that could run as much as the glass itself. Think some guys paid $400 for it. With comfort glass, it'll keep UV rays down good enough and add little privacy in the process. Glass was $604.23. Expensive but! Regular was around $457. Plus the cost of 3M UV shield and ouch!

Also ordered a few other things such as an extra gasket for the new driveshaft CV joint in case I mess up the one on there now during install. And also some new bolts and nuts for the front/rear diff mounts. Total cost? Lets just say my bank account has been very mad at me lately and leave it at that lol.

Your statement that your deductible "could" apply bothers me. If you have a deductible on your comprehensive coverage then it applies. If you don't have a deductible on comprehensive then there is no deductible. Your insurance company should be able to tell you with 100% confidence. None of this "could" crap. I know you've already ordered parts, but you should get clarification on that from your insurance company.

I highly doubt the insurance would cover OE glass anyway. They'd probably cap it at like $200 on some aftermarket glass.

Mine (State Farm) would not cover a dealership windshield for our E90 but they did send me a check along with 3 quotes. I'd have to look it up to be sure but I think the check was in the $600 range.

Dang, in my state (SC) insurance companies are required by law to cover auto glass 100% with no deductible.

My wife asked me the other day “how do you replace a windshield on a RAV4?”. I said “you whack it with a hammer and call Safelite.”
...but you would never admit to that, of course!

I have full coverage with deductible. Also State Farm. Weird thing is most people I know (locally that is) with SF have either had to pay their deductible for glass replacement, or not. Like 50-50. Of course ALL of them saw their rates eventually go up after a couple months.

Just called them today and they were insistent I go with aftermarket glass and seals because original BMW parts are too expensive for a car this old. Yes, that was literally the response. In fact the woman I talked to, sounded a lot like that awful witch I dealt with when the 540i was wrecked. Except I'm not going to get all worked up over it. I'll hit up my local agent when it's all done. I know for a fact he'll get me the money back for at least the glass itself. Did the same for my sister when her Corolla needed a new windshield and they refused Toyota glass back then. Like my car, it was "too old" for factory parts.

Oh and for the record, ALL insurance companies suck! It's a lose-lose no matter who you go with.
