almost time for new tires... i'm about 15500 miles and i'm thinking by summer i'll need new tires. any suggestions? i just read the post below, any other suggestions? as good as expensive tires are, i'm not trying to spend too much money. my biggest concerns are tread life, wet traction, noise... thanks

I have been very, very, happy with my Sumitomo HTR-Z II's.

They are grippy, quiet, wear very well, and the price is nearly unbelievable.

They are built on the Dunlop SP9000 carcass, with a more aggressive tread, so they are a very good tire.

I love them on my 330i SP, and talked my dad into putting them on his 540i-6. He raves about them as well.

Spend some time on www.tirerack.com

There is a wealth of info, road tests, and customer reviews.

Once you decide what type of tire you need it should be easy to choose a specific tire.

The Current Max performance tire of choice is Bridgestone S03
Can't really help you decide from experience, but from all the research I've done, I'm currently planning to replace my Conti's with the Sumo HTR's (wish I'd known about them back when I had my Supra and spent ~$225/tire on Goodyear Eagles!).
I spent years trying to figure out what tire would work the best for me with previous cars. Nothing like paying too much for tires and getting little or misleading info to boot! I should have been using Tirerack a long time ago.
Bridgeston S-03 all the way. Better performing that Pilots and cheaper too.
Well, the others are right that S-03s are awesome, but they don't meet your requirments. The treadlife is fairly short and they can be loud. Grip in wet an dry is astounding though. Not too cheap either...

Ditto. GRIPPIEST TIRES I'VE EVER OWNED. PERIOD.

All that for about $40 cheaper than the Michelins.

I think when my wife's Pirelli P7000SS wears out I'll change it for Sumi's per Emission's recommendation, just for comparison...That and she tend to like quieter tires. These Bridgestones are LOUD! Even the OEM Bridgestones on my old style 44's were loud.

I love mny Micheilin Pilots, they are excellent in the dry & wet but terrible in the snow !!

they are by far the best tires I've ever had !!

If I had to replace them I'd probably go with them again but those Sumi's sure sound tempting !!! Plus the Sumi's tread looks very similiar to the Pilot's

S03 or Sumo HTR, depends how much u wanna spend on tires... the HTRs last longer too I think.

interested in going to driving school with the Porsche Club in March? and what's up with your windshield? drove too close to a truck? =)

Was toolin the Tirerack site and did some research on the HTR-Z II. From the reviews it seems numerous people reported after 10,000 mi that they start cupping and become loud. Another individual (all bimmer owners) repoted the tires became very hard after some track use. The individual did not recommend these tires for the track.

They look really cool! and seem to have good wet/dry traction but if they change after 10,000mi I'll stick to the 03 PPs.

My .02,
Haus
