Anyone else use their X5 to tow things?

We have a '12 X5 Diesel that replaced our towing vehicle (an 08 Chevy Silverado) so obviously the replacement needed to be able to pull when we were car shopping. No complaints yet! Seems to tow everything from 600lbs in sheet rock and bathroom materials to a covered snowmobile trailer and our 21ft Four Winns runabout with no problems and still get relatively good mileage compared to the old V8 truck. Love that torque!

Anyone else tow and have some pictures? I am looking forward to loading down the boat the boat this upcoming summer and really trying the X5 out!

I plan to tow my track car with my X, I'll post pics next week after my first event.
While shopping and doing research it was hard to find real world info on the E70's towing capabilities. So when I happened on your Youtube videos and they were really helpful in making the decision. Thanks.
One thing I wondered was whether you have the load-leveling suspension or not. In your boat pic the rear is slightly sagged when compared to Blue Dragon's, so I'm guessing that you don't and he does.

Yea it was difficult to find real world towing impressions. Most people must not tow. I havent had any complaints.

Rear does look more sagging in ours and I am honestly not sure if it does have load leveling in the rear or not. Maybe they got rid of it on the newer ones? I don't think I even heard about it when shopping. Only thing my car is missing that I know of is the active front seats with ventilation.

What year is blue dragons? Nice four winns by the way. Beautiful boat.

^^ You have the self levelling suspension if you got the 3rd row seats. Otherwise, it was some sort of voodoo with certain adaptive drive configurations. I have an '09. Keeping it until the MY '15 shows up.

As far as I understand, unless you specifically ordered option code 220 when building your car:
- Up to 2009, if you ordered the spare wheel or 3rd row seats you automatically got load-leveling.
- From 2010 on, you only got load-leveling if you ordered 3rd row seats.

AirLift 1000 kit does wonders for sagging rear. Hundred-some bucks and you have 1000 lbs more tongue weight it can withstand. Not sure if it fits the X5 though. If there are no coil-over shocks, then it would fit (someone pls post a pic of the rear susp).

And yes, SUVs are made for towing LOL. I cannot understand people who don't have a hitch and don't tow with such mosters (especially with 425 ft-lbs of torque!). :rofl: I have a rear and front hitch on my MDX. :D

An E70, especially with rear air suspension, adaptive drive, active steering, and massively wide rubber, makes for a super stable tow rig.

We had those on our first Silverado, a 2000. Made a huge difference in the saggyness! :thumbup:

You guys have way too many nice toys...
My neighbour once ridiculed the idea of owning an X5, by saying: instead of having that 70k truck, here is my 30k truck and .... a 40k boat.

To which I say, nah.... here is a 70k truck .... and.... a 70k boat LOL :rofl::D
