I could not find the oil fill plug on the transmission of 2008 338i sedan. I looked everywhere. I found the drain plug on the bottom rear of the pan on the driver side.

You're one up on me, I can't even find a 338i.

Regardless of model, the fill plug is on the back.

Before you think about messing with that fluid, you need to make sure you do ALL your research and understand EXACTLY what you need to do. Why are you getting into it?

The Fill Plug on the GM6 transmission on the 328i/xi is the 17mm hex head plug in the REAR of the transmission case above the pan and the drain plug. Both are on the US Passenger side (vehicle Right side) of the transmission, just in front of the Transfer case. See the attached photo of 2007 328xi GM6 with transfer case behind transmission (NOT on yours ;-). It's easy to get disoriented (L vs. R) lying on your back looking up at things.

Also, here is the link to the TIS procedure for checking transmission fluid level. Fluid temperature is very important as fluid expands with heat, and also it is MANDATORY to have engine RUNNING when doing final fill. If you turn engine off BEFORE reinstalling fill plug, the transmission pump quits pumping and several quarts of fluid run out, leaving level low enough to cause transmission damage. So make SURE you have read procedure in TIS & Bentley, and fully understand the need for EACH step.
