Greetings my peeps!

Wondering at what mileage/time any of you have performed this?

General consensus is 40-50K miles. There are different theory's on doing a few drain and refill vs a flush. I did a flush at 55K and now at 65K and all seems ok (I didn't have any issues prior to flush, just preventative).

I have been using Pentosin ATF1 for years with zero problems. If can be found in almost every auto parts store. I can usually get a 5 liter jug for around 75.00. You can also find it on Amazon on sale at times.

Any idea how much does the Transmission flush cost? Also, if the Dealer has changed a Short Engine Block an year ago, do I still need to do this service? I am not sure if the Dealer did a Transmission Flush when they did the above service.

My man!! Well, as you know, I've been in my new house just over a year. We are absolutely LOVING it! I've contemplated another car several times but have not been compelled to grab something else. I've actually decided when that time comes, I'll still keep her. I just hit 65k and she's still treating me right. ***x1f609;
I am however, looking at either a Velar or G05/X5 for the Mrs this Summer. ***x1f642;

Mack, did you replace the Filter too or just fluids? I'm reading where and being told it's not even needed. But since I plan to keep my car for as long as I can, I want to be proactive. ***x1f642;

I changed the filters also; I don't change as much as others have quoted (15K miles) so figured I'd do everything every 50K. After reading the comments posted here, I may just change again at 75K as oppose to 100K. As mentioned here, its cheap insurance.

I just changed my fluid and filter at 43K. You definitely want to change the filter (pan) with the fluid unless you're planning to do a double fluid change.

You only get new engine oil and coolant, the only thing they would have done with an engine change is topping off the transmission fluid.

I would just drain it with new filter/pan. Flush is done under pressure and by majority service people not suggested. Every 40-50k interval is right depending on your driving habits.

the big question is when does sludge start to form. 50k sounds a little iffy. there are a lot of small orifices in the transmission. its like your blood, doesn't take much to start a problem. keeping it clean helps. Since you don't get it all when you do a change, you are just trying to keep it thin enough to prevent a clog

I took my car to the dealership ( I know i shouldn't) they told me you don't need to change your transmission fluid. I'm like are you sure. They like yes, don't mess with it unless you are having issues. I'm so confused.

I don't want anything happening to my car.

The official recommendation is either lifetime (or 100K, depending on dealer interpretation), which is why they're telling you not to change it unless there is a problem. If you are having issues, it could fix it or it could make it worse. Some dealers don't have a problem offering it upon customer request though.

BMW is NOT maker of transmission....ZF Fredirschafen AG is. See link from their website on their products maintenance.
Ask your dealership if you can apply same theory on ATF to you engine oil.... this is why people call them stealerships. When you have issues with your transmission it will be too late for ATF/filter change....you will be forking out big $$$ for new transmission.
