The roads in Mexico where I live are not the greatest. About 3 weeks ago a hit a rock.....well more of a boulder.. in the middle of the road and put a hole in my transmission pan. All the transmission fluid leaked out. I purchased a new pan and paid $100 to have it installed. However the question came up.... how many quarts of transmission fluid needs to go back in. I know for a fact all the fluid leaked out. Can anyone help me with the amount? I have heard anywhere from 8 to 10 quarts. Also what is the best transmission fluid to put back in now that all of it is out. :bigpimp: I have a 2006 BMW 325i.

ZF transmission fill is requires a surprisingly precise empirical protocol of filling, venting, an adjusting the level/volume at a measured required temperature. Only ZF Lifeguard fluid should be used.

Otherwise one is subject to Third World problems in a First World automobile.
