I have a 97 528i and the triangle light with a cirlce and the abs light are on. no brake light is on. The car seems like it wont go into 3rd gear? the speedo works fine. I need help!!!!!!

These cars are *extremely* battery-dependent....How old is your battery? Average life is 4 years, beyond that, you`re living on borrowed time. Sudden & weird (seemingly unrelated) electrical problems can be a sign that the battery`s about to crap out....throw in the possibility of dirty/corroded electrical connections while you`re at it....
If the battery & connections are OK, the next target would probably be a bad wheel speed sensor.

well the battery is pretty new maybe a couple yrs at the most. would a bad wheel sensor stop my auto trans not to shift into 3rd by itself?

If you can remove the speed sensors and clean them as a first step.
